CMEA: The California Association for Music Education Strategic Plan The California Association for Music Education (CMEA) is a Federated unit of MENC: The National Association for Music Education and its strategic goals are closely aligned with those of the national organization. Ongoing planning guides the association. The strategic plan is continually reviewed, and adapted when necessary, to fulfill those roles that will maximize our ability to meet association obligations in California. The CORE PURPOSE of CMEA Music Education for All! The Core Values of CMEA Value One: Music is necessary for humans to be whole. Value Two: Music education is a core subject and an integral component of a complete education.
Value Three: Every K-12 student should have access to a comprehensive, sequential and standards-based music education.
Value Four: All forms, styles and genres of music are respected, and noble and artistic expression is valued and encouraged.
Value Five: Music education is vital to the continued performance, creation and understanding of music.
Value Six: Music education is critical in the preservation and advancement of the art of music.
Value Seven: Ethnic and cultural diversity among our members and students strengthen the association.
Value Eight: Professional development and improvement are vital to music educators as a means for personal and professional growth.
Value Nine: Integrity and professionalism in our relationships with employers, colleagues, students and the community are fundamental.
Value Ten: Honesty and integrity in financial management are essential.

Eleven: Transparency of communication is necessary
for the sound operation of the association. OPERATIONAL CATEGORIES The strategic plan for CMEA is operationalized in four categories, referred to as MAPS. I. Under each of these operational categories, CMEA continually identifies appropriate strategies and activities that will best achieve the CORE PURPOSE of the Association. Current and newly proposed activities of CMEA are evaluated to ensure that the energies of the association are always focused on fulfilling our core purpose, in line with our core values and within the scope of our operational categories. The strategic plan and strategies for implementation are continually developed and refined to meet the current needs of the association and its members. The CMEA Board Approved August 23, 2003 |
