APPLY NOW for the
Great American Marching Band
Seeking Musicians, Flags & Dancers from every state!

In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade® in 2006, Macy's selected MUSIC FESTIVALS as their partner to create the Macy's Great American Marching Band. The Band comprised of four students from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia lead off the 80th Parade in New York City, NY. Macy's and Music Festivals will continue this tradition with the third-annual Macy's Great American Marching band leading off the 2008 Parade. The Macy's Great American Marching Band will be comprised of representatives from every state.
As in 2006 and 2007, the band will be under the direction of Dr. Richard Good, Auburn University and Ohio State University's Dr. Jon Woods. The 50-member flag and dance color-guard will be choreographed by Greg Lagola of the famed Cadets Drum Corp of Pennsylvania. Students will be selected through an audition process. The eligible students must be enrolled freshmen to senior (9th-12th grade) high school students during the 2008-2009 school year.

During the musicians' time in New York they will have the opportunity to attend workshops led by Scott Lang, founder of Scott Lang Leadership Endeavors. The workshops will focus on leadership and encourage students to achieve their maximum potential.

In addition to marching in the parade, all selected participants' package plans will include meals, lodging and sighteesing like the Circle Line Ferry cruise tour, TOP of the ROCK, Thanksgiving dinner dance and Cirque du Soleil holiday show, Wintuk.

Stepping-off from Central Park on Thursday, November 27, 2008, the Band will be cheered by 2.5 million live spectators, before arriving at Macy's Herald Square for their national performance for more then 50 million TV viewers watching the broadcast live on NBC.

We are accepting applications for drumline (bass, quint/quad, snare and cymbals), piccolos, flutes, clarinets, trumpets, trombones, baritones, mellophones, euphoniums and sousaphones. We are also accepting applications for dance and flag members.

Please let us know if you have an outstanding student(s) that you would like to nominate to be a member of the band or in the complimenting dance/flag corp. We will send them a letter of invitation and waive the application tape*/video based on your recommendation as a student who would proudly represent your state in an honor band like this. * Drumline, Flag and Dance auditions stil require a video.
